Bridges
A bridge is a custom made, false tooth that is fused between two porcelain crowns to
replace a missing tooth. If spaces between teeth are left unfilled,
the surrounding teeth are liable to drift out of position. Spaces caused by missing teeth
can also make your other teeth and gums become far more susceptible
to tooth decay and gum disease.
There are two types of bridge:
Resin bonded or maryland bridge
This is usually used for front teeth. The false tooth is fused to metal bands
bonded to neighbouring teeth with a resin that is hidden from view. This type
of bridge causes less destruction to the adjacent teeth and is less expensive.
Cantilever or fixed bridge
A crown is supported by the adjacent tooth (or teeth) in a permanent fixed position.
Costs: from £270 per unit
